Player Progression

The player progression system explained.

Join The SFL

The SFL operates a player progression system, allowing you to control where you focus your strengths and train your weaknesses throughout the season.

ROOKIES

  • Join the Discord server
  • Introduce yourself in the #introductions channel to get permissions to other basic channels.
  • Look in #playeropenings for positions that teams are looking to fill.
  • Speak with Owners in Discord about their needs and what they look for in players.
  • Come to a verbal agreement on a position and go to that team’s page and submit a Builder form.
  • The Owner then submits a contract on your behalf to the league in a Group DM on Discord with you included. Look over the contract to ensure you agree, then respond in the Group DM that you accept.Once finalized, a player may not change teams as they are officially committed.
  • A contract is considered “final and official” when both team and player have agreed to the contract in the Group DM with the league and the Director of Player Personnel has added the player to the roster. At this time, the contract cannot be canceled or otherwise voided by the player or team. Extenuating circumstances can be brought to the League Office and a ruling will be made.

VETERANS

  • You may talk to any team at any time about signing with them.
  • Come to a verbal agreement on any changes (position within the rules, weight change)

Term Definitions

  • Attribute: Any category that is rated on a scale of 0-99 to determine the capabilities of a player (eg. Speed, Pass Accuracy, Run Blocking, etc.)
  • Animation: Any Ability, as defined by All-Pro Football 2K8, that provides a player with an increased chance of performing certain animations that can provide an advantage in certain situations. These abilities do not provide a bonus to attribute ratings but do affect the players Value. (eg. Acrobatic Catches, Branching Tackles, Swim)
  • Rating: The numbered value between 0-99 given to each attribute.
  • Level: Designates a higher quality of player which changes their requirements for progression.
  • Coach Points: Points allotted to each team to provide a temporary bonus to Players each week.
  • Primary Attribute: Attributes that the League has determined have the greatest effect for a Player’s on-field performance, depending on their position.
  • Secondary Attribute: Attributes that the League has determined are valuable, but have less effect on a Player’s on-field performance, depending on their position.
  • Value: The total market Value of the player and the effect the player has on the team’s salary cap. Calculated by totalling Value of attributes and animations on a player.

PLAYER OPTIONS AND RULES

  • Players choose the progression of their player’s abilities by submitting a form (modeled at the end of this document) to the League in their team’s player changes channel on Discord, starting at 12:00AM CT Tuesday through 11:59pm CT, Wednesday of each week. The League will update the current season’s roster file with each change. Only submissions posted in the 48 hour window will be accepted. No exceptions will be made.
  • Players must have cheered their 100 bits on Twitch for the given week by the end of the Progression window in order for their Progression to be processed.
  • An Inactive User Player is defined as a user that has not progressed their player in any 2 weeks of the Regular Season. Inactive status cannot be applied to users until after Week 2 of the Regular Season unless extenuating circumstances are brought up to the League Office for a ruling to be made. Players cannot be replaced after Week 8 of the Regular Season.
  • Players must submit their own changes using their own Discord account. Changes may not be submitted on their behalf by someone else. Evidence to the contrary will result in disciplinary actions laid out below.
  • Players who do not submit a change to the League on any given week will have any saved progression reset to zero.
  • Players can save progression as long as the table below dictates.
  • Not all attributes have a maximum rating of 99. Most Attribute maximums are reached at a lower rating. Maximum values for each attribute can be seen on the Player Builders on the website.
  • A Player will advance to the next level when their Value has reached the next level as set by the League. These thresholds are dependent upon position.

COACH OPTIONS AND RULES

  • Coaches will be given 20 Coach Points each week to allocate among their Star Players. These changes will be submitted by midnight CT Wednesday of every week.
  • Coach Points are spent at a 1:1 ratio, meaning 1 Coach Point = 1 Rating Point.
  • Coaches may not spend more than 15 Coach Points on any individual player and no more than 5 points any individual attribute.
  • Ratings cannot be raised over the maximum value for any attribute.
These ratings will be reset each week.
  • Teams may not save Coach Points between weeks, meaning the balance is always reset to 20 each week.

SYSTEM EXPLOIT AND PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT CONSEQUENCES

  • If a player is caught exploiting the Player Point system in order to gain an unfair advantage using illegal methods or breaking the Player Code of Conduct, the following scale of consequences will be enforced:
  • First Offense: Player will lose all progression currently saved.
  • Second Offense: Player will not be able to progress for the remainder of the season.
  • Third Offense: Player will be retired and is unable to brought back from retirement.
  • Fourth Offense: User will be banned from League Discord and unable to create any new players in the future.

OWNER AND COACH PLAYERS

  • Owners and coaches may have user players on their teams.

INITIAL PLAYER SIGNING

  • A ratings calculator for all positions is available in the Player Builder page so they can create their player for every opportunity they are offered. Players can submit that to owners so teams know what type of player they would be receiving in the potential signing.
  • When a team and a player agree to a contract, the owner submits all ratings and player information to the league. A contract does not become official until until it has been announced by the league. This information will be submitted in a group DM with the league office.

FREE AGENT SIGNING

  • If a player has already played a full season under the player progression system, his market value is determined by the Value he has accumulated.
  • No player may sign a contract above his current Value, but can sign one at or below it.
  • Owners will have access to all player ratings and will be able to determine what type of player they are getting prior to signing.
  • When a team and a player agree to a contract, if the player is remaining at his same Value, both the player and owner just need to agree and approve – the league already has all of the player’s ratings on file.
  • If the player’s Value is being lowered, he does not start from scratch. He just lowers his ratings from where they stood at the end of the previous season.
  • A player whose contract is being lowered cannot at any point raise an attribute or add an ability in adjusting the player’s Value.

ANIMATIONS

  • Animations are split into Low and High Value
  • Low Value Animations are considered to have a smaller effect on a player’s game performance. High Value Animations are considered to have a larger and more common effect on a player’s game performance.
  • High Quality Animations take an extra week of Progression to be added.
  • Not all animations are available to all positions.
  • A description of each animation and what they do can be found on the Position Guide page of simulationfl.net.
