The Baltimore Vultures were pushed to the limit but managed to hold off the Arizona Scorpions in the 19th SFL Championship Game in overtime, 27-24. It’s Baltimore’s third consecutive title – tying the Alaska Storm dynasty that won three-straight titles from Seasons 10-12 – and the franchise’s fourth overall – tying the Queen City Corsairs who won four of the league’s first eight championships. Co-Owner Thomas Paterniti has now won six titles overall (most in SFL) including his two as an owner in Minneapolis, Seasons 4 and 7.
Baltimore never led in the game, only managing to tie the score at 7, 14, 17 and 24 before ultimately taking the lead in overtime on Shark Tarkington’s game-winning field goal. It is the 7th Championship Game where the losing team scored 24 points. Baltimore has now won four titles against four different teams – Sioux Falls, Florida, Lone Star (now Alamo City) and Arizona. Queen City also beat four different franchises to win its four titles, two of which are the same as Baltimore – Oklahoma City (now Arizona), San Francisco, Houston and Dallas (now Alamo City). It was the first SFL Championship game to go to overtime.
