Hunter Norwood (HN): As we get later in the season you are going to start to see the rankings settle and here we are going into Week 8 and mostly little to no movement down the list. There is a big mover and we have two teams knocked out of the Top 11 but we are also seeing clusters starting to become more defined. Read on to see if your team has entered the top half of Elo and if not check the JaxData Twitter to see what kept them out.
Jack Wall is absent this week as he is busy designing his very own statue to stand outside the King’s Lair
(-)1. Jacksonville Kings (1603.85)
HN: The Kings reign supreme for another week and give themselves a cushion as they head back home for the next two weeks of play. Jacksonville went into The Hive and defeated the #7 Atlanta Swarm for their first home loss of the season en route to a provisional 3 seed as the standings sit currently. Next week they welcome the short handed #9 Chicago Wildcats to town as they look to continue their second half of the season push for a top 2 seed.
(-)2. Louisiana Revolution (1588.88)
HN: The Revs were able to easily dispatch the #13 Vancouver Legion last week and were able to juuuust hold on the 2nd place spot here in the top 11. The small gap they had to make up on the Kings has grown but they have continued to do what is needed which is to just keep winning. They hold a provisional top seed in the playoff bracket and will look on to the #16 Houston Hyenas next week to gain as much ground as possible before a Week 9 meeting with the Kings.
(+1)3. Denver Nightwings (1587.99)
HN: The Nightwings continue their path back to league dominance after taking down the #21 Carolina Skyhawks on the road. The win on the road helped but Denver was favored regardless and so they needed another score or two to edge out Louisiana for the 2 spot. The Nightwings continue their Carolinas road trip as they head to the #11 Predators in a game that can truly help them make a leap if they come out on top.
(-1)4. Baltimore Vultures (1587.85)
HN: Baltimore started slow but finished very strong en route to a 47-14 shellacking of the #17 Houston Hyenas. The Vultures fell to the same fate as the Nightwings above where they needed another score to stretch the differential out enough to hold firm in their position. As you can see with the weighted Elo they were edged out by 0.14 points so this week, when they face off against a #6 Mexico City team, they will be looking to continue to add to the win column and make a push back into the top 3.
(-)5. Sioux Falls Sparrows (1572.83)
HN: Sioux Falls had just enough of a cushion to survive a close win over the #15 Lone Star Glory to hold onto their number 5 ranking over the Aztecs this week. As you can see in the numbers this is the second split in the “tiers” of these teams per Elo. The Sparrows are a full 15 points off of the Vultures and will hope to start to erode that deficit when they play the #12 Queen City Corsairs on the road this week.
(-)6. Mexico City Aztecs(1571.33)
HN: The Mexico City Aztecs were able to dispatch the #20 Portland Fleet this week and hold steady at number 6 and be very much within striking distance of a top 5 spot at the expense of the Sparrows this upcoming week. Thankfully for them the #7 Swarm lost at home and so they did not have to worry too much about anyone catching them here and barring a disaster won’t have to worry this week when they play the #4 Vultures at home.
(-)7. Atlanta Swarm (1536.80)
HN: Atlanta represents the third and final split of the Elo tiers in this list(the true final tier is dubbed: everybody else). After a rare loss at home for the Swarm they have tumbled down in Elo but have a decent cushion on a suddenly strong Florida Storm team. Atlanta will be hoping to turn their road woes around as they face a #16 Arizona Scorpions team that hasn’t looked nearly as deadly as they were a few weeks ago at 3-1.
(+1)8. Florida Storm (1525.42)
HN: The normally CAT 5 Florida storm have posted another loss this season and are looking more like a CAT 2 these days; which to any true Floridian means: Hurricane party at my place. And yet, despite a loss to the #14 Las Vegas Fury, the Storm have moved up a spot in these rankings thanks to the recent collapse of Chicagoan dominance on the field. The Storm look to pick up some more speed this week when they welcome the #18 Tulsa Desperados to town.
(-1)9. Chicago Wildcats (1524.21)
HN: Chicago continues to falter at the midway point of the season, this time losing to the #11 Predators. The Wildcats have so far been able to ride their strong start to the season and hold onto a provisional 7th seed in the playoff standings, but another loss will have them meet the forthcoming clump of teams that will be 4-4 and with their 19th ranked SoV they will not be able to sniff the playoffs soon if this keeps up. Next week they look to turn things back around as they play the #1 Jacksonville Kings on the road. Whew.
(+4)10. Fort Worth Toros (1518.37)
HN: I believe this is the first appearance of the Toros here on this list and they have done so with style after blanking the #19 St. Louis Gladiators and shooting up four spots into 10th. Now that they’re here the real test begins: staying here. Fort Worth has been a bit of an up and down team a la the Queen City Corsairs this season(It’s almost like the two teams are missing a major piece of themselves…nah that can’t be it). This team is definitely hoping that they will be up this week though as they play host to the #15 Lone Star Glory in about as neutral of a home game as you could get in APF.
(+2)11. Charleston Predators (1514.51)
HN: The Predators re-enter the top 11 this week after taking down the #9 Chicago Wildcats this past week and hope to solidify their place here in these rankings. If you check on the teams dropping out from last week you will see that Queen City is all of 0.19 points away from being here in the 11th spot so the Preds need to make sure they win again this week as they host the #3 Denver Nightwings in what should be a hard fought game in the trenches
Team(s) that have fallen out: (-2)#12 Queen City Corsairs(1514.32), (-2)#13 Vancouver Legion(1511.98)
