Week 8 is now behind us, and as the dust settles, we find ourselves deciding on players to crown champions for this week. Each week is a bit more challenging because everyone wants to shine, especially since playoffs are around the corner. Around this time of season, teams are focused on fine tuning their play books and ensuring that players make necessary progressions for their final push. This week’s winners of Players of The Week proved their value on the field with their outstanding performance. Without further ado, here they are!

Offensive Player of the Week

This week’s Offensive Player of the Week is Tulsa Desperados Running Back Sonzo Robinson. With 132 yards on 18 carries, Robinson seemingly ran all over the Mexico City Aztecs, cashing in on 4 Touchdowns which doubles his season total for Rushing Touchdowns. In his 7th season in the SFL, Robinson is 10th in the league with 809 yards, but is tied with five other backs for 3rd in the league in Rushing Touchdowns. The 5-3 Desperados will host the 2-6 Florida Storm next week.

Honorable Mention

This week’s Honorable Mention goes to Sioux Falls Sparrows’ Quarterback Julian Tyree. Tyree was 24/35 for 306 yards, 4 Touchdowns and 1 Interception. Tyree, who is now a 9 season veteran, has led the Sparrows to a 5-3 record. Despite being near the bottom, 18th of 20, in total yards, Tyree is 4th in Completion Percentage and 5th in Yards Per Attempt.

Defensive Player of the Week

An entertaining battle took place in the Thunderdome in Chicago. The crisp, night air had a spark of energy that you could feel as two great teams took to the field. When you witness a great defensive battle featuring two teams that are known to have high quality offenses, it easy to see why people enjoy the game of football. The Atlanta Swarm’s defense held the Chicago Wildcats to 3 points all game long, and a large part of that was because of #20, strong safety, Mr. Aaron Lee . He efforts shined brightly on the filed as he had 8 tackles, 2 assists, 3 interceptions for a total of 34 yards, with his longest hitting 25. If Lee can keep this stride going, he will help his team make it to the playoffs and beyond! Congrats Aaron!
Honorable Mention

Honorable Mention for DPOTW has a fantastic performance that truly made an impact on the field. Mr. Rhett Sawyer, Defensive Tackle for of the Las Vegas Fury, is no stranger to causing havoc for any offense that stands in his way. He was able to manage 5 tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks , and 2 tackles for loss and this former Tulsa Desperado member does not fail to show, every game, why he is one of the best in the league. Congrats Rhett!

Special Teams Player of the Week

It’s an even-numbered week, so that means Chase Earl, come on down! It’s your third Special Teams Player of the Week award! Earl, having won an award in Weeks Four and Six is back again off a performance that may very well have sealed a victory for St. Louis with seven returns for 231 yards, including a stunning 95 yard return touchdown that helped give the Gladiators the 38-45 edge over the visiting Seattle Tyrants. Congratulations, Chase, and make sure to clear some space on the mantle – we’ve got Weeks 10 and 12 coming up, too!

Honorable Mention

It’s hard to score 15 reliable points for your team and be told it wasn’t even necessary, but that’s exactly what happened this week with Jacksonville’s Mike Cline Jr.! He hit all five of his kicks, including a 48 yard long one, but in the end, it didn’t even matter, as the Kings had 4 more points than necessary over the Hyenas without the help of Cline Jr.’s accurate foot. A pat on the back and an honorable mention to you, good sir!
