Here in the Simulation Football League’s Beat Headquarters, we comb through the performances of every single member of the league who is #MakingAnImpact to try and find the standouts to be elevated above the rest. Folks – simple work, this is not. Many times, choosing just two recipients (a winner and an honorable mention) is grueling in and of itself, as there are so many different people out there carving out their legends in their own way. This week, an insane rushing performance (hearkening back to a certain record-setting championship performance), an interception-heavy tackle monster, and a man whose foot is sore from putting the entire team on his shoulders. What exactly do we mean by all this? Read on and you will soon be aware – and maybe, just maybe, next week that will be you.
Offensive Player of the Week
Offensive Player of the week is an honor that given for outstanding performance on the field, and these player had a direct effect on helping their team. The Seattle Tyrants struck gold when they hired Zack “The Sandman” Sandlin to be their star running back, and for good reason. Sandlin’s performance of 32 carries for 299 yards, 2 TD and 54 long was nothing short of extraordinary. If he keeps this up, the Tyrants will be playoff bound for sure. Now that is some great moonshine. Congratulations Zack!!
Two honorable mentions this week; one for helping their team come back against the Offensive Player of the Week, Mr. Siege Falco, wide receiver for the Atlanta Swarm. He shined brightly like the diamond that he is with 8 catches for 128 yards, including 2 touchdowns. Our second honorable mention goes out to Jacksonville Kings wide receiver Greyson Willis! With 5 catches for 118 yards and 1 TD, Greyson put in the work. Also, his longest receptions? 69 yards. Nice!!
Defensive Player of the Week
This week’s Defensive Player of the Week goes to Arizona Scorpions’ third year pro, Mana Kanaka. The cornerback had 4 tackles, a pass defensed and corralled 3 interceptions off of Florida Storm veteran quarterback Ron Cockren. Kanaka now has 6 interceptions on the season, good enough for 3rd in the league. It’s worth noting, though, that a total of NINE players are tied at 6 interceptions. Kanaka will look to separate himself next week as the Scorpions travel to Sin City to square off against the Fury.
This week’s Defensive Honorable Mention is Denver Nightwings free safety Josh Vasquez. Vasquez is right behind our DPOTW with a total of 5 interceptions this season, just 3 shy of his personal best and with a lot of football left to play. Denver will travel to the East Coast for a match-up against the Carolina Skyhawks this week
Special Teams Player of the Week
The Denver Nightwings have no shortage of talent on the field. Last season’s champions always find a way to make #makeanimpact, and that is why STPOTW goes to non other to Mr. Kramer Jackman. This yoga master with his “Golden Leg” helped lead his team to victory and set a record with his perfect performance, hitting all seven out of seven field goals made (including 48 yards long!). Hall of Fame Bound for sure! Congratulations, Kramer!
Our runner up came through with a clutch performance as well, and that is Mr. James Troll, Kicker for QCC. He went 5/5 FGM and 31 long and helped this 4 time championship winning team add another win in the books. With Troll, they have a great shot of winning back that gold! Congratulations James!
