Bad Beats: Chicago at London, Sioux Falls at Carolina
Rough week for the coach, but you know what they say, “You’re never as bad as you look at your worst and never as good as you look at your best.” The SFL continues to baffle and entertain, so that much is good. What else can I do but get back to the grindstone and try for a mid-season comeback with this week’s picks? Without further ado, here they are!
Week 7 Betting Lines
As week 7 kicks off, the SFL moves into the second half of its season and playoff races really start to heat up. This week in particular features some huge showdowns between playoff hopefuls, first between Vancouver and Las Vegas on Friday Night Lights, then with two potential game-of-the-year candidates in Tallahassee at New Mexico and Denver at Chicago, and finally with a very solid matchup between Tulsa and Queen City. Meanwhile, teams that find themselves hovering around 0.500 are all looking to step it up this week and change the direction of their season. All told the combination should make for a spectacular weekend of SFL football!
Friday, 6 pm CT
Vancouver at Las Vegas (+1) – Vancouver favored by 1
Vancouver is fresh off of a bye while Las Vegas is reeling after losing three straight. Look for this to be a very close game, with Vancouver coming out on top in the end.
Saturday, 7 pm CT
Tallahassee at Mexico City (-4) – Mexico City favored by 4
A battle of two traditional SFL heavyweights, this has game-of-the-year potential. Mexico City has lost their biggest game so far to Chicago, but looked unstoppable lately against bottom ranked teams. Tallahassee, on the other hand, has played a tough schedule and is starting to find their identity on offense and defense. Look for Mexico City to outlast the Pride and pull out a win at home.
Sunday, 3 pm CT
Tulsa at Queen City (-7) – Queen City favored by 7
Tulsa really has no signature wins despite a 3-2 record and have struggled at times against bad teams. But make no mistake, a win against Queen City would be as signature as it gets. Look for the Desperados to keep the game close early, but fall behind down the stretch and ultimately lose by a TD.
London at Houston (-1) – Houston favored by 1
London has been up and down, clobbering Chicago while getting destroyed by Indy in back-to-back weeks, so it’s really hard to know which London team will show up for Sunday’s game. Houston has mostly just struggled, but look for them to put together a solid performance and win in an uncharacteristic shootout.
St. Louis at Dallas (-9) – Dallas favored by 9
St. Louis has struggled epically in the last few weeks while Dallas has played well, but in some cases not well enough to win. Look for St. Louis to at least give a respectable effort this week, but still fall pretty far short in this one.
Indianapolis at Alaska (-12) – Alaska favored by 12
Indianapolis has been up and down lately and are focused on improving week to week, but Alaska is a machine, and I look for them to pull away from Indy late.
Sunday, 7 pm CT
Denver at Chicago (-7) – Chicago favored by 7
Denver is undefeated, which is really hard to do in the SFL against any opponents. Chicago is battle-tested with some high quality wins and some head-scratching losses. Look for the Wildcats to bring their A game and take this one by a TD at home.
Monday, 7 pm CT
Atlanta at Sioux Falls (+1) – Atlanta favored by 1
Atlanta and Sioux Falls are teams going in opposite directions. Look for Atlanta to continue improving while Sioux Falls continues to struggle.
Carolina at New Orleans (-9) – New Orleans favored by 9
Carolina is showing growing pains, with solid wins and embarrassing beat-downs intermingled. New Orleans has looked very solid despite losing to some good teams. Look for the Pharaohs to overwhelm the Skyhawks and win comfortably at home.
San Francisco at Baltimore (-5)* – Baltimore favored by 5
San Francisco has looked good in recent weeks but it’s hard to gauge their true talent level given their schedule. Meanwhile, Baltimore has knocked off the defending champs twice in resounding fashion.
