The Simulation Football League announces its plans for the league’s 800th game, which will be celebrated in Mexico City Saturday September 22, with a 5 p.m. kickoff on Twitch. Cameron Irvine and Steven Mullenax will call the occasion.
The Sparrows (6-3) and Aztecs (5-4) are in a battle with Las Vegas (5-4) for the No. 2 seed in the West, which is an automatic qualifying position in the SFL Playoffs. Las Vegas will host London (3-6) also in the playoff mix Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on YouTube, as scheduled. It’s the fourth meeting between Sioux Falls and Mexico City, the second in Estadio Azteca. The Aztecs have won two of the three previous meetings, including a 16-0 shut out in South Dakota earlier this year.
“We are so excited to have reached this critical milestone,” said Commissioner Cameron Irvine. “Sioux Falls and Mexico City have a combined six and a half years of league ownership under their belt and are two of the four most winniest franchises in the SFL. The added playoff implications made this game an easy choice for a celebratory afternoon.”
The SFL is close to releasing its plans for the upcoming SFL Pro Bowl and SFL Rookie Draft, along with announcements in conjunction with the Competition Committee on improved league strength for its players – new and old and enhancements to SFL Network presentation and innovation including a once-thought impossible addition on live broadcasts. The league will also have announcements on the upcoming off-season calendar and team lineup for Season 12 in the coming weeks, which kicks off the first week of January.
Baltimore and Dallas, originally scheduled for Friday night, will be rescheduled for a Sunday afternoon time slot to be determined. There will be no Friday night SFL game in Week 11.
