The Simulation Football League continues to bolster it’s front office and support staff today by opening up the application process for all seven vacant seats on the league’s new Competition Committee. This Competition Committee’s purpose is to serve as a quorum of League Representatives to determine the best course of action to proceed when time is critical, but a rules decision must be made to keep the integrity of the competition of the SFL intact. These rulings come either during the season or off-season in a time when rules cannot be voted on by the Owners in the Owners’ Meetings that occur each off-season. The General Manager and Player Representatives of the Committee will also help brainstorm ideas for the off-season meetings and discuss rule proposals from owners before the Owners’ meetings are held.
“Many times during the league’s history, decisions that are not on the books are needed and those decisions fall on the top of the league and while we are the most impartial, we are also the smallest group, do not represent directly all interested parties and often take criticism for the decision-making process,” said Commissioner Cameron Irvine. “We are here to offer support where it is needed, but our primary objective is to have a league that operates as a well-oiled machine. That often comes into direct conflict with the sudden halts we have to take to settle disputes or make tough decisions. Many have come to us expressing the need for a committee or a desire to be on one that has representation from our entire community, one that has a deep passion for wanting to see the league succeed. We are here to deliver on that today. This will also help us progress faster as a league, as more time will be devoted to coming up with more solutions to problems, particularly during the often-ambiguous owner meeting rule change proposal period of the off-season.”
Owners and General Managers will vote in five owner members, one general manager member and one player member onto the Committee. They will all serve six month terms and can be elected to an unlimited amount of terms. Anytime the Committee is brought something by the league, the discussion will be recorded so people understand the tedious process it takes to formulate a fair and balanced ruling that effects a lot of people or member teams. This Competition Committee will begin serving the league effective July 1, 2018 and their terms will last through December 31, 2018.
The application process will last through the end of the weekend, Sunday June 24 and will be extended only if there are not enough candidates out to but not past Wednesday June 27.
“This is a chance for players and general managers who want to be involved on the league level, for players and general managers to move up the ranks in the league and for players and general managers to put themselves in a better position to own a team one day,” Irvine said. “For owners, this is their chance to leave their mark on the league and showcase their organizations as first-class to the rest of the SFL.”
