A chance at a 2 peat has officially come to an end. The Mexico City Aztecs were defeated by the dominant Alaska Storm, 38-33.
It looked like at first like the Storm were going to pull away early with a 28-17 lead, but the Aztecs fought back and scored 9 points to close the gap to 2 points. Scoring started off with a King Wallis 57 yard pick-six, but the Storm answered right back with a Cockren-Clifton touchdown in the red zone. Optimus Cline continued to show why he is one of the best WRs in the league as he had a whopping 17 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown. Dijon Swann, who played his final game in a Mexico City Aztec uniform, finished with 8 catches for 87 yards.
Despite the loss, the “Bronze Bomber” showed out throwing for 3 tds and 270 yards. Evan Carroll, who is probably the league’s premier CB, returned a 52 yard int to the house.
Alaska is really in good hands, coming off a huge win against the defending champs, next week hosting the Sioux Fall Sparrows to decide who will book their ticket to the SFL Championship Game. Mexico City’s off-season has begun, and should have nothing but positive views entering next season. Ramos Lynn and his crew will definitely be back for some vengeance after a great season.
