In a high scoring game in bitter cold Alaska, the Storm managed to hold off the Vaqueros 34-24. Both teams were red-hot coming in to this game at 2-0, but the better team managed to pull out a win. Lots of game changing plays occurred and one that stood out was Ryan Tobin’s 48 yard pick six after Joey Langdon was crushed and the ball came out in the air.

Both offenses produced, but turnovers from San Antonio killed opportunities as Langdon threw 2 interceptions. Alaska’s defense put pressure on them, forcing mistakes and stops. The Vaqueros almost had their chance as they rallied from a 17-0 deficit to tie it up at 17, but then the Storm took off and put up points on the board to take the lead back.

Both rushing attacks were dead as the Vaqueros’ German only racked up 65 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown. Alaska totaled up 26 total rushing yards. This game was played by the quarterbacks of both teams as Langdon threw for 274 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions and Cockren threw for 298 yards with 3 touchdowns and only 1 interception.

This game came down to the offenses and had both defenses on their heels at all times. What turned the game around was crucial turnovers that evaporated hopes.

The Alaska Storm head down south to take on the 1-2 Atlanta Swarm who are off to a slow start, after a crushing loss to the Sparrows.

The Vaqueros host the stingy 1-2 Houston Hyenas in a Texas Showdown.
