OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
ASH ODOM, RB, QUEEN CITY
29 CAR/142 YDS/4.9 YPC/3 TD
In a game where his team held the lead and the momentum from start to finish, no other player on the field ground out a better performance in 44 minutes than Ash Odom. Averaging almost 5 yards per carry for 44 minutes of play is impressive enough and, in some cases, all that’s needed to win, but scoring 3 times on the ground was ultimately the deciding factor for this game. Dallas’ late game surge made it so that Queen City needed Ash Odom to have found the endzone as many times as he did because without his 3 TD’s, there was no lead for them at the end of regulation. Next week, Ash faces the pride of the Pride: their defensive line. He will be called upon to put down the rumors of them being unstoppable and unforgiving by showing them that those are the words that describe his play instead.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
MIKE “FATS” JOHNSON, DT, TALLAHASSEE PRIDE
10 TACKLES/4.5 SACKS/8 TFL
Speaking of which, the General on the Line, known to his teammates and fans as “Fats”, showed off his complete ability and prowess in the trenches against the Atlanta Swarm this week. Johnson found his way past the Swarm’s offensive line 8 times in the game, accounting for more than half of the team’s 14 total TFL. Atlanta RB BDG Hollewood could find no room to run in the face of this line, especially Johnson who seemed to single-handedly disrupt the Swarm gameplan. One of his 4.5 sacks showed incredible athleticism as he dove for QB DeMar Woods in a terrifying display. Next week, Johnson has the chance to truly show off against one of the greatest minds in terms of the rushing attack in Queen City. If he produces another performance like this one, the SFL’s rushers may have to seek shelter in tosses and swings to try to avoid this mountain of a man from literally flying at them.
