The undefeated Houston Hyenas held Sioux Falls’ offense to just 290 total yards in H-Towns 34-23 triumph Sunday to improve to 5-0. Through five weeks of the season, Houston is No. 1 in scoring defense and No. 2 in total defense. Houston outscored Sioux Falls 14-0 in the third to pull ahead and kept the Sparrows offense out of the end zone on all but one possession.
Quarterback Cody Cantrell had another interceptionless game, throwing for three touchdowns, completing 21-of-29 passes. Cantrell now sports the best quarterback rating in the league (107.5) with a league-low six interceptions in five games. William Choice carried the rock 26 times for 142 yards and a TD. D.R. Sim was electric downfield, with 199 yards and two big ones to the house on seven catches. Sioux Falls was kept one dimensional, with running back Kevin Klancy struggling to produce (25 carries, 56 yards). Michael Moore from Julian Tyree was the offense’s only strike.
Sioux Falls has bounced back two previous times this season after a loss, but faces unbeaten Mexico City in Week 6. Houston welcomes Alaska, seeking revenge for the win Houston gave away in the Western Conference Semifinal from the winter.
