With starting receivers Prince Escobar and Badr Ajlouni out with first-half sustained injuries, Cleveland made a strong effort to keep up with Baltimore but their defense had no answer for Baltimore running back Sonzo Robinson in a 59-44 loss. Robinson rushed for a career high and Season 9 high of 344 yards on 32 carries for four rushing touchdowns.
Before leaving the game, Escobar had 200 receiving yards on just four receptions, three of them touchdowns. Flynn Starbuck stepped in valiantly with 198 yards and two scores on seven grabs but Cleveland simply didn’t have enough bullets to stay ahead. Matt South disconnected on just five passes, his favorite target Kendall Gilbert (10 receptions, 122 yards, 1 TD). There wasn’t much defensive effort, but Baltimore’s Aaron Lee had a pick to go along with eight solo tackles. Macc Wavy Jr. threw for a stunning 548 pass yards and now leads the league with 1,854 passing yards this season. Brian Shark helped Cleveland’s ‘D with nine total tackles and an INT.
The Stallions, fully healthy, will face winless Carolina in Week 6, hoping to bounce back. Baltimore has a tougher test ahead of them, at Atlanta, where Baltimore was humbled Week 1 of last season.
