Opening the game up in the second quarter, the Alaska Storm trampled the Dallas Ruffnecks at The Eye 55-28 to improve to 3-2 on the season. The loss dropped Dallas to 2-3, two of those losses coming to the Storm. Alaska outscored Dallas in the second frame 17-0 to take a commanding halftime lead.
Alaska racked up over 200 yards on the ground and through the air. Ron Cockren passed for 272 yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions), completing 22-of-28 passes. Optimus Cline was the top target once more this season, 116 yards on five grabs for a score. Evan Carroll recorded two interceptions, including a 99-yard interception return touchdown in the late stages. It was Carroll’s first pick-six of his career. Dallas’ defense didn’t get good efforts out of many, but Bobby Law managed 16 tackles, three for loss. No Ruffneck receiver climbed past the hundred mark, although quarterback Shabazz Psynergy racked up 344 passing yards.
Dallas will host Vancouver in Week 6, while Alaska travels to Houston to face the undefeated Houston Hyenas.
