With time running out, the Atlanta Swarm were set up to kick a game-tying field goal to force a Tuesday night primetime effort against defending champion Queen City into overtime. The only problem was, Atlanta didn’t have any timeouts left – and Atlanta didn’t know it. By the time the Swarm realized there was no safety net, the clock ran out and Queen City pulled off a 27-24 shocker at “The Hive” to improve to 3-1, lifting the Corsairs into second place in the East.
Atlanta, down 24-16, drove the length of the field to score – then convert a two-point conversion with just minutes left. The Swarm gave the Corsairs just enough time to drive into the redzone and kick a go-ahead field goal. Running back Kyle Walsh rushed for 187 yards and all three of Queen City’s touchdowns. Avry King had 14 tackles and Koa Kaleo haunted the Atlanta front with four sacks. One of Atlanta quarterback Malcolm Mandel’s strongest performances (25-of-29, 284 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT) ended in defeat. BDG Hollewood carried the rock for 192. Rookie defensive back Mahmoud Ajlouni has been a major bright spot for Atlanta’s defense – against Queen City, Ajlouni compiled 14 tackles and an interception.
Atlanta welcomes another top East power into their house in Week 5 – the Tallahassee Pride – the SFL Game of the Week Monday night. Queen City heads to Missouri to face a St. Louis squad still trying to put the pieces together.
