It’s official: Johnny English is struggling. Hurt earlier in the season, English’s 48 yards on 17 carries against the Pride didn’t give Carolina enough offense to conquer rival Tallahassee 38-27, dropping the Skyhawks – coming off their first postseason – to 0-4 and sending the Pride to their second-consecutive 4-0 start to a season.
Through four weeks of the SFL season, Johnny English is 14th in rushing yards (239), last among gold star running backs in Season 9. His three rushing touchdowns is second-worst. Tallahassee built a 28-13 first half lead behind the legs of J. Calvin Kim. The Pride running back is second in the league in rushing yards (820) and first in the league in rushing touchdowns with nine, on pace to top Marcus A. Boas’ single-season rushing touchdowns record (26). Bernard Goodin picked off two passes for the Pride, and is tied for first among rookies for picks this season (3).
Carolina will try to get off the schneid against Chicago and former head coach Shann Varner. The Pride will travel to Atlanta, where they were whipped 41-28 late last season in their only trip to ATL.
