So far, the Houston split has been all Hyenas. While Greg Morris made major contributions as Defensive Coordinator and co-owner in Houston, helping the team make a playoff appearance in the spring, Morris’ new team – the San Antonio Vaqueros – are still trying to figure out how to make the magic in the Alamo City. In Morris’ return to Houston, the Hyenas weren’t very gracious guests, shutting down San Antonio to 10 points and less than 200 yards passing in a 27-10 win. Houston improved to 3-0 for the first time since Season 6, when the Hyenas made their only appearance in the SFL Championship Game.
Mid-season pickup Daley Holder had a big game for San Antonio (12 rec, 142 yds, 1 TD) the only bullet in the San Antonio downfield attack. Houston rookie William Choice edged out San Antonio rookie Jason German on the ground while Cody Cantrell improved his completion percentage to 73% on the season, second best in the league. Aaron Arrington led Houston’s defense with two picks. The Hyenas are giving up just 16.3 points per game through three weeks, tops in the league.
San Antonio will try to get the gears turning at home against Dallas in Week 4, while Houston will welcome struggling Vancouver to town.
