After a defensive struggle for three quarters, Baltimore and Carolina combined to score 25 points in the fourth frame to force overtime, where Baltimore won the coin toss and kicked a game-winning field goal – the second game in Week 2 where a road team won in OT on a game-winner after winning the coin toss. Baltimore got its first win of the season, dropping Carolina to 0-2.
The Crabs beat Carolina with big plays, largely from receivers Kendall Gilbert (8 rec, 149 yds, 1 TD) and Mike Osayi (8 rec, 117 yds, 1 TD) who leads the league in passing yards through two weeks (750 – exactly 375 in each game) kept a clean sheet – in fact – neither team committed a turnover in a turnover-centric week across the league. Free safety Aaron Lee had 13 total tackles; linebacker Riley Earling recorded 11. For Carolina, it was another letdown. After giving up a big pass play late in a loss to Atlanta, the Skyhawks repeated the same mistake against the rival Crabs. Still, Carolina got strong showings from Shaun Harrelson (12 rec, 114 yds) and free safety Blake Herman (13 total tackles). Carolina and Dallas both started their seasons 0-2 at home. Three of the four other winless teams in the league played both their games on the road.
Baltimore travels Queen City (1-1) in the league’s 500th Game Celebration Sunday night. Carolina will meet Cleveland – loser falls to 0-3 – in the Stallions home opener.
