Houston quarterback Cody Cantrell threw at least two touchdowns without an interception for the first time in 11 games and his sturdy efforts lifted Houston to a big road win over Sioux Falls Sunday. Cantrell completed 20-of-26 passes (his highest completion percentage in 12 games) for 256 yards in the win, ending a two-game losing streak in season openers.
Sioux Falls has now lost three of their last four home games. New star running back Kevin Klancy had a difficult time getting going (23 car, 104 yds, 1 TD) and only had 35 yards on 10 receptions in the swing/checkdown game. For Houston, newcomers found much more success. Rookie linebacker Darian Boles had 11 tackles (led team) and strong safety Blake Chance – playing his first game in Houston from Carolina – had the team’s two interceptions. Rookie running back William Choice totaled 158 yards on the ground and 59 in the passing game.
The Houston Hyenas (1-0) will face the 0-1 Dallas Ruffnecks in the SFL’s Sunday Night Game of the Week with Cameron Irvine. Sioux Falls (0-1) travels to Alaska (1-0) for the Storm’s home opener Sunday at 3 p.m. CT.[event_details id=”3935″ align=”none”] [event_results id=”3935″ align=”none”] [event_performance id=”3935″ align=”none”]
